Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the mother of a 15-year-old boy who was being sought on an arrest warrant issued Sunday brought him to a police station.
Guglielmi said the boy would be later brought to a juvenile detention center where a 14-year-old boy who was arrested in the case over the weekend is being held.
The boy turned himself in at the Ogden District police station while with his mother.
He has been charged as a juvenile with criminal sexual assault and manufacturing and distribution of child pornography, Guglielmi said."He is being questioned before going to juvenile detention,'' according to Guglielmi.
Detectives said the 38-year-old woman also allowed him to use her credit card and let him drive her car.
Zahadi Ortis, a resident at the apartment complex, said she couldn't believe the child sex abuse allegations.
In a brief interview, the girl's mother said Monday that her daughter remains at what police called the "safe place" and has not returned to school.
The AP generally does not identify potential victims of sexual assault and is not identifying the mother so as not to identify the girl.
The suspect, a 15-year-old boy, was taken into custody "accompanied by a parent,'' Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in an emailed statement Monday afternoon.Brendan Deenihan said at a Sunday news conference at Chicago police headquarters."We obviously have a video of the incident, so we have verifiable objective evidence of what occurred to this young lady, but she's just having a very difficult time."She's always so super kind and sweet," Ortis said. The boy's mother reported the alleged child sex abuse to police officers, after she found a text message in her son's phone. Lucie County Detective Joe Norkus the message said the boy needed to seek out medical attention for a possible sexually transmitted disease. But they have said that besides the cellphone camera that recorded the incident and streamed it live on Facebook, others at the scene also recorded the sexual assault.
